Guidelines for Reviewers

General information

The CERME 15 Paper Review Form is available here.

The CERME15 review process will operate through the electronic submission system ConfTool. Papers will be peer reviewed by authors and co-authors of papers submitted to the TWG, whereas poster proposals will be reviewed by TWG leaders and co-leaders. These initial reviews concern only acceptance for the conference, and not inclusion in the post-conference proceedings. TWG leaders will organise the review process.

Quality Criteria

Contributions should be focused on research significantly related to mathematics education. They should be original and not have been published previously.

Both reports of studies involving empirical data (including surveys, observational, ethnographic, experimental or quasi-experimental studies or case studies) and theoretical and philosophical essays can be suitable for CERME. Papers should be

  1. relevant to the themes indicated in the Call of the Thematic Working Group,
  2. embedded in the international research of the topic of the paper.

The novelty of the paper and how it builds on past research, or goes in new directions, should be clearly stated. Papers should briefly specify their cultural context with an international audience in mind.

Contributions need not be limited to completed research. On-going studies may be submitted, provided that a theoretical framework and preliminary results are included in the submission. The contributions should, however, contain all information necessary for reviewers and other researchers.

The contributions should be in the format specified in the Guidelines for Authors and use the CERME15 template strictly and accurately. The styles and guidelines for referencing in the CERME15 paper template must be respected. Only papers fully adhering to this format will be accepted. Submissions that do not satisfy the length requirement can be automatically rejected before review.

Some authors may have had feedback via the Pre-submission Support. In such cases, the TWG leader will forward a copy of this feedback to the reviewers. Please ensure that you take this feedback into account when reviewing the paper.

Criteria for the Review

Please use the CERME15 Paper Review Form for your reviews, including specific reference to the following 6 quality criteria:

  1. Focus and rationale of the paper
  2. Theoretical framework(s) and related literature
  3. Methods [if applicable]
  4. Statements and discussion of results
  5. Clarity
  6. Relevance to this CERME TWG audience

ConfTool provides five categories to evaluate the quality of the paper concerning the above-mentioned criteria. The five categories for evaluation are the following:

  1. Excellent coverage of this review criterion. There is no need for improvements.
  2. Very good coverage of this review criterion. Minor adjustments should be made.
  3. Good coverage of this review criterion. Some adjustments should be made.
  4. Modest coverage of this review criterion. Major adjustments should be made.
  5. Poor coverage of this review criterion. Only rewriting may meet the review criterion.

The reviewers should take these categories seriously in their evaluation. The reviewers are further asked to propose any changes that should be made before the conference, and these changes are a basis for the decision of TWG leaders concerning a publication in the conference proceedings (a check of all changes will be made by TWG leaders/co-leaders after the conference).

The final section of the Paper Review From includes a space for recommending changes and revisions.

  1. Summary points and suggestions for change (note: every review should include constructive suggestions on how to empower the research and the related paper.)

The final decision on acceptance with or without modifications or rejection for presentation at CERME 15 will be made by the TWG team based on the evaluation of the reviewers, the reviewers’ recommendation for improving the papers and the acceptance ratio.

Timeline of the Review Process

  • 14th of October 2026: Deadline by which reviewers submit their reviews adhering to the guidelines through ConfTool.
  • 28th of October 2026, the TWG leaders send an email to the authors via ConfTool to inform them about the review decision (acceptance for presentation with minor or without further modifications; acceptance for presentation with major modifications or rejection for the presentation at the conference) and revisions requested, if there are such.
